CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL
(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannic-12, Tussi-12, Tussizone-12 RF
USES: This combination cough suppressant/antihistamine medication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth usually twice daliy as needed; or as directed by your doctor. Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of clear fliuds when you use that medication. The fluid will help to looesn phlegm/mucus in your breathing passages.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, nausea, and dry mouth and nose may occur.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immedaite medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other efefcts not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any allergies. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages.
Caution is advised when using that medication in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to medication side effects.
This medication shuold not be used in newborns. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pergnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication may pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding wihle using that drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used within the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistmaines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the labels on all your meidcines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacsit about the safe use of these products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room imemdiately. Sympotms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, seizures.
NOTES: Do not share that mdeication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue.
Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
